Anglers Inn Lake El Salto Bass Fishing Report
The bass fishing at El Salto has been outstanding with 60 – 100 fish/boat days. The lake is low and the fish have bunched up. When you find one you will catch others in the same area. It is what our customers are calling fun fishing or a no brainer! In addition to good numbers we are catching fish in the 8-11 pound range.
We had a corporate group of 32 last week from the San Diego/Orange County areas. There were 16 executives from the McCarthy Construction Company with 16 of their sub-contractors. Everyone caught bunches of fish and really enjoyed their rooms, food and especially the service rendered by our staff.
Jason Mrozek (McCarthy) won the Big Fish trophy with a 9 pound 13 ounce beauty. The Most Fish Award went to Mike Bolen (McCarthy) with 160 fish over 3 days. The 15 Biggest Fish award went to Dave Weigel (also McCarthy with 65.75 pounds which is 4.38 pound average. Think about it, this was a 3 day weight that would win 95% of the US Pro tournaments! Good job guys! It looks like the McCarthy (one of the largest General Contracting companies in America) guys won all the gold but let me assure you it was the sub-contractors who really won. They had 5 days to present their products and make lasting relations. It was a win-win scenario for everyone!
They left the lodge in their bus as we were receiving new groups totaling 32 anglers including 17 anglers from the San Diego, Long Range fishing gang. Captain Ryan Bostain of the” The San Diego” said it best on John Cassidy’s, Rod & Reel Radio ( 540 AM) Sunday from the lake, “we fish offshore for a living but we come to El Salto twice a year” and went on to say “it is like a kid going to Disneyland for fishermen”. I talked to John (also owns Anglers Arsenal Tackle Shop in La Mesa) earlier in the week to see if he could send down some Fat-Free Shad Crank Baits in the Citrus pattern and he told me the offshore guys had wiped him out. I will report back after the San Diego group leaves for an update but so far they are kicking it!
Speaking of hot baits, in addition to the deep diving Fat Free Shad the following baits are must:
1. 10-12 inch Power Worms Black/Blue Tail
2. Big Senkos 6+ inches Texas rigged
3. Chartreuse & White ½ oz. & ¾ oz. gold double bladed with a White of Chartreuse split tail trailer slow rolled of the bottom.
4. Black & Blue or Watermelon & Brown/Red ¾ ox Jig and Pig. In the trees.
FYI: There is plenty of time to enjoy the balance of the season which ends on July 31st. Remember many of the epic Big Bass Shows that have been filmed at El Salto where in late June and July.
