Lake Baccarac Bass

Happy New Year! If one of your goals in 2014 is to catch a Largemouth Bass over 10 pounds…Read this from my good client Earl Rideau:

“I’ve fished most of the popular lakes in Mexico, including El Salto, none even come close to the quality and fight of the fish in Baccarac. Even a three day trip will give you the “opportunity” to catch a 10 lbs.+ bass. On my last trip I fished 5 days and caught 24 fish over 10 lbs! I had one day where 5 bass went 65 lbs (not incl. my big fish of the trip which was 17.25 lbs.), another where I had 62 lbs. and a third where I had 55 lbs. To “catch” almost every big fish you hook fish light saltwater tackle like the Shimano Calcutta 400 with a 6.5-7 ft. med. stiff to stiff rod, 50-65lbs. braided line with a 25-30 lbs. fluorocarbon leader with BIG baits.” Good Luck!

Lake Baccarac Bass Angler Pulls in 9 and 10 Pound Bass – 11/22/13

Lake Baccarac Bass

While it’s getting cold here in the states, the bass fishing is heating up on Lake Baccarac. It had been slow but Tag Watson killed them using Alabama rigs and spinner baits, reporting the best day of his fishing life. Narlin Salazar found the big bass fishing method. Narlin’s technique of casting away from the bank and into deeper water was the key for catching multiple 9 pound largemouth, many 10s and missing a real trophy bass that Tag says is the biggest fish he had ever seen.

Summer, 2013 Bass Fishing Report from Lake El Salto

August 14, 2013 Leave a comment
El Salto Bass

May, June and July are big fish months and this season was no exception. You heard about the 7lb average on a tournament of 36 anglers in the last Lake Report and this lake report and testimonials speak for themselves. The lake was low and the fish were bunched up and when you find them, it is game on!

Steve and his son Aaron proved that he can catch fish too, when one day he and his son Aaron caught 24 bass in the morning session from 5 to 8.4 pounds. That’s right, no fish less than 5 pounds! David Kohler had a 10.6 pounder and his fishing partner Norm McCallson had a bass over 9 pounds.

Walt & Alice Bodie, repeat visitors to Anglers Inn said “Fishing was excellent for big bass. On my best day, my heaviest five fish weighed 41.5 lbs. During the trip I took 12 fish in the eight pound range, one 9 1/2 lb fish and one 10 lb bass. I didn’t keep track of the seven-pound fish but I do remember catching five in one morning. I was using big fish baits so I didn’t catch many small fish. I was most successful with 8″ a watermelon seed lizard and 7″ Senkos in watermelon/black fleck. A few four to six-pound fish were caught on swim baits and crank baits but I didn’t spend much time with them. As usual, the staff and guides excelled at their jobs. It is that type of work ethic and the excellent food and accommodations that keeps bringing us back to El Salto.

Everyone caught awesome fish on the bait of their choice from top-water to spinner bait, from crank baits to senkos, from 10 & 12 inch blue/black Berkley Power Worms to 8-inch watermelon lizards and from the silver/blue back Rat’ L trap to the swim bait. It was clearly a matter of confidence each angler felt about a particular bait.

Logan Sebela went down to Lake El Salto for four days of fishing July 8-12. He reported: “The weather was hot but the fish were big. We did not catch as many as last time but the quality was up. We caught a total of 70 fish, very few under 4 lbs and lots of 5’s and 6’s, about 10 in the 7’s, and 3 in the 8’s. Highlight of the trip for me was catching a 6.3 and then an 8.3 on consecutive casts on a big Norman crankbait, my personal best. I managed to best that the next morning with a 7.10 and then an 8.10 a little while later on a Zarra salwater Super Spook. Two personal bests in two days is always fun. Had a great time with my buddy Mike, excellent guiding from Lacho, and outstanding service from Anglers Inn!”.

Ric Grover caught two 10+ pound bass in back to back casts. He said “the back to back 10’s were on the Trashfish swimbait. Other great baits were the Evergreen 480 Combat crank, the Zoom lizard and the Skinny Dipper swimbait. I caught 5 over 10 and my buddy Kevin Gross got an 11.86”.

I want to take a moment to thank our sponsors Abu Garcia and Berkley. Having their products available at the lodge has huge benefits for anglers. Folks loved the Abu Garcia Veritas Rods and Revo Reels that are now available at the lodge. Both bait casters and spinning rods are available for your convenience.

I encourage you to join me Oct 1-5, 2103 for a 4 night/3 & ½ Day Opening Season Special for $1565/angler!

Name: Lake Baccarac Lodge
Hottest Baits: Topwater, Lizards, Super Flukes, Spinnerbaits
Hottest Colors: Watermelon, Watermelon / Red Date Fished: February, 2013
Comments: 02/24/2013 Chester Graham’s group of ten reported good bass fishing, with some boats catching 35 largemouth a day. His group used a lot of spinner baits along with watermelon flukes. Bob Bennett landed a couple of double-digit bass. Baird Archbald and his group of eight had only an average fishing trip after some of the exceptional trips they have had in the past, but plenty of photos have surfaced depicting double digit fish being caught. The bigger bass are hanging on the points and are heavy into the spawn being very finicky. In the back of the coves, there are plenty of smaller bass if you want to fish for them. Bill Kenyon caught a nice 12.6 pound trophy out of the Archbald group. Watermelon flukes are currently the best bait.
02/17/2013 Ratl traps working up the river for the better numbers along with six fish over 10 pounds caught yesterday. Today along with 14 bass over 9 pounds…some boats are catching up to 50 fish a day and some boats just a few per day…Bill Hicks caught a nice 11.2 pounder on topwater. Fishing during the spawn is pretty tough.

Hottest Colors: Watermelon, Watermelon / Red Date Fished: January, 2013
Comments: A review of the last few days of bass fishing on Lake Baccarac. A group of 16 bass anglers reported an overall great trip, with largemouth over 12 pounds being caught. They had success using Alabama rigs and Super Flukes rigged with weighted hooks, Scroungers tipped with watermelon Super Flukes and 7 inch Senkos. Recently arrived guests reporting better action than the previous bass anglers with some boats catching 30 to 40 bass a day and fish over 13 pounds. The fish are on the main river points and the best area of the lake is Poppa Chaw. Fishing deep is producing good results on Lake Baccarac.

Date: January 17th, 2013
Name: Lake Baccarac Lodge
Hottest Baits: Electric Blue Worms, Flukes, Super Flukes, Swim Shads
Hottest Colors: Watermelon, Watermelon / Red Date Fished: January, 2013
Comments: Arriving via private plane, Jason Courtney and his group, along with Greg Riggle and his fishing partners, all reported slow action yesterday, January 16th. They did also report nothing but big bass being caught, with Jason not catching anything smaller than an eight pound bass and the biggest fish being 11 lbs. The temperature was cold on the 15th and 16th, with enough ice forming on our planes that we could not have an early departure the morning of the 16th. The forecast trends to warming and current lake temperature is in the mid sixties, but should warm rapidly.

January 15th – Guide Sixto Figuero landed at 14.14 pound Monster Bass!

The end of last week, Larry Beard landed 30 fish a day, with the majority of bass being between 8 and 9 pounds. He also caught two 11 pound largemouth and one 12 pound trophy! Fishing partner Mike Hodge on Lake Baccarac – Mike had better bass fishing success than Larry using smaller line, along with smaller baits.

Comments: We love days like today, anticipating the bass fishing will shut totally off from the rain, the cold weather and the low pressure system but John Stafford managed to catch an 11.10 pound trophy bass, with his fishing partner also catching one over 10 lbs. and they caught great numbers of fish using Scrounger jig heads, along with watermelon flukes with weighted hooks. An additional 10 lb. bass was caught by another member of John Stafford’s party, with only one boat reporting low numbers of bass caught. All other bass anglers had an exceptional day on Lake Baccarac.

Hottest Colors: Watermelon, Watermelon / Red Date Fished: December, 2012
Comments: Fishing results on Baccarac varied from the 16th to the 21st with a pretty good cold snap moving through Sinaloa and slowing the bass bite way down. Dennis Puff and his friend Alex arrived via commercial flight into Los Mochis and caught low numbers but did manage several 8 pound largemouth and one bass over 10 pounds on their last day. Gordon Soto had a an excellent day with 65 fish caught up to 9 pounds using heavy jigs. Narlin, while guiding, managed 4 fish over 10 pounds using senkos in deeper water. He’s a bass fishing machine!
