January Bass Fishing Report from Anglers Inn on Lake El Salto, Mexico

El Salto

This season has been very exciting and appears to be improving daily! The fishing has been extraordinary for the sheer numbers of fish caught and overall trip experience! Captain Mike Lackey, owner of the Vagabond, (a long range Sportfisher out of San Diego) had a group of 16 Industry friends who come down every December and May said it best, when asked what baits were the most productive, he said “whatever you want to throw was the best bait because you caught fish on almost everything in your tackle box and a lot of them”! They all agreed that this was one of the best bass fishing trips they had ever experienced. Mike went on to say that a couple boats of his anglers who were hard core crank bait fishermen had a session that produced 30 bass in the 6-8 pound range! (Fat Free Shad in the Citrus and Baby Bass pattern was the ticket).

Mike Ishikawa (who has a fish counter) fished with Bob Fletcher (1st timer) the past President of Sportfishing Association of California (SAC) and he said their best day was 182 bass up to 7 & ½ Pounds. The topwater fishing has been excellent with some anglers reporting up to 50 bass per boat on Pop “R’s, Sammy’s, Rico’s and Yo-Zuri Sashimi series. It seems that if you want topwater action, it is on! The go-to color for soft plastics is Watermelon (red flake) in both 8” Zoom Lizards or 6” Senkos (wacky rigged was the preference). Swim Baits (Storm and Money Minnows) worked well as did Jerk Baits and Rat L Traps. It did not seem to matter what color as long as you threw it and retrieved it! The only thing that matters is to be here and enjoy this fantastic fishing which has been generating 100+ bass/ boat/day. My recommendation is come on down! By the way, everyone loves our new custom Tracker Bass Boats. They are the most fisherman friendly boats in Mexico!

As for the Amazon, the water level is receding, the Peacock Bass are out of the jungle and the bite is on! I will report back via email and short video clips with updates. You will find a link on this report to a recent article written and posted by Stan Fagerstrom, the world famous, “Master Caster”. When you read Stan’s article you will understand my pride and appreciation. All of us at Anglers Inn International say, thank you Stan! Any success we have is the team doing it the “Anglers Inn Way”. We still have some openings for Anglers Inn Amazon. I invite you to come and experience the revolutionary Fly-In, Floating Suites and peacock bass fishing at its best. We fish beyond natural barriers where the river boats can’t go in Government & Indian Reserves.

You should consider adding on a couple of days to your bass fishing trip to experience the in-shore and off-shore, saltwater fishing with Anglers Inn Off shore from our private VIP dock in the Marina Mazatlan. You can count on the same quality boats, equipment and service that are rendered at our bass fishing resorts in Mexico and Anglers Inn Amazon in Brazil. The entire fall season has been prolific from mahi-mahi (also known as dorado) in September, yellowfin tuna, sailfish & stripped marlin in October – December.

The fishing for jack crevalle & rooster fishing has been excellent and we expect it to continue through March. In addition, we have had good results bottom fishing for red snapper, white sea bass (corvina), grouper and trigger fish. Whether you go off-shore for the pelagic species or fish artificial baits for jacks, roosters and groupers we have a plan! Book your saltwater days and we will adjust your trip to maximize your fishing experience. Our bass anglers have enjoyed casting to schools of feeding jacks (5 to 25 pounds) on our light tackle rigs. The fact that you are within swimming distance from the hotels that line the beaches in Mazatlan it makes an action packed and picturesque outing on the Mexican Riviera. Anglers Inn Lake El Salto

November Bass Fishing Report from Anglers Inn on Lake El Salto, Mexico

Joe Thomas on Lake El Salto with Anglers Inn

Comments:

We had a group from Yo-Zuri design and engineering that was here to test new Sashimi baits. They arrived on Oct 19th. By the 22nd they had caught 2 bass at 10 pounds, 1 fish at 11, 1 at 9 pounds and some 8 pound bass all on film. I saw the photos and they are the real deal. The groups at the lake were averaging 50 to 100 largemouth bass per day with some big fish. One morning George Large, fishing by himself caught 48 bass up to 8 pounds and on their departure day George had a 10 & 11 pounder. These are the same quality fish that we were catching at the end of last season.

In addition, customers at Lake El Salto say the topwater bite is on. They also said they averaged 45-50 fish/angler in the morning session. Hundred fish days are common although the afternoon bite with the exception of the last hour has been slower overall. Our new boats are second to none on El Salto! They’re the most user-friendly fishing boats in Mexico with huge casting decks and side by side seats for riding and your choice of a butt seat or swivel seats while fishing. Thanks to Tracker Marine who went with my new design and built this bass boat. It has really impressed our anglers.

You can expect your Anglers Inn amigos like Herbie, Tony, Sammy, Ramon and Jose to be at the lake to greet you and head chef, Giovanni to prepare your meals!

October Bass Fishing Report from Anglers Inn Lake El Salto

Comments:

The fishing season has arrived at beautiful Lake El Salto, Mexico. Anglers Inn has already been entertaining beginning and veteran bass anglers from around the world. Anglers are reporting anywhere from 50 to 70 fish per day with plenty of quality fish in the mix. “We have had many anglers report catches of 7 to 9 pound bass,” said Billy Chapman, Jr. “The water levels are a little low for this time of year, which is good for fishing in general. This year is already turning out to be a great one for Anglers Inn.

Jim Huson, Fayetteville, Ark., native threw a wacky-rigged Senko, Watermelon Lizard and Rattle Traps to anchor nearly 70 fish by himself in one day. The Anglers Inn International veteran has had close to 25 trips and wouldn’t change a thing. “I always feel safe with Anglers Inn International,” said Huson. “We are treated great, we catch fish and safety is no concern. That is exactly why I choose Anglers Inn International. They do it like only Billy Chapman, Jr. can. It is perfect. I will keep coming back as long as I can.”

The hot baits for El Salto during the fall to winter months continue to be 8-inch Zoon Lizards, 5-6 inch Senkos, black and blue Skinny Dipper-style swimbaits, crankbaits (Citrus Shad color) and Rat-L-Traps. Not to mention, the topwater bite is starting to turn on . When it comes to technique and Lake El Salto anything goes, and it doesn’t matter if you are a seasoned angler or weekend angler. Everyone is at home with Anglers Inn International. The guides are tuned into the fish and can point anglers in the right direction. Anglers Inn is introducing a fall special for any level angler. The fall specials will save anglers money and they get an extra half-day of fishing included bringing the stay up to 5nights/4 days of fishing. American Airlines will now be offering flights from Dallas directly to Mazatlan so anglers looking for a quick route now have another option. The fall special is good from October 6 until December 22, 2011.

Our staff is widely known to be the best and at Anglers Inn we pride ourselves on our service. We want any angler or non-angler to come enjoy the great amenities that we have to offer. I guarantee that you will enjoy your stay with our famed staff, excellent accommodations and the greatest bass fishing on the planet.

Lake El Salto – Fishing Report from Anglers Inn

July 12, 2011 Leave a comment

If there was a specific time anglers needed to flock to the holy grail of fishing, Lake El Salto, the time is now. The big fish are highly concentrated and on the hunt for an easy meal with water levels typically low just prior to the upcoming monsoon season. Anglers Inn International is the place to be for great service, superior guides and the best bass fishing on the planet.

Let’s go ahead and address the safety issues that are making anglers a bit more hesitant to book their flight to Mexico. The border continues to be the most severe of any portion of Mexico, and to be honest it doesn’t seem to be ending anytime soon. Fortunately, the problems are focused at the borders and Anglers Inn is safely located 800 miles from worry. When anglers book with Anglers Inn International they can rest assure that they will be safe. “I’ve been down here at least 10 times and there has never been a moment when I have felt threatened,” said Vincent Harris, Future Pro Tour and Calif., resident. “When your only worry is catching an 8 pounder or a 12 pounder you know life couldn’t get any better, and that is why I choose to fish with Anglers Inn International.”

At Anglers Inn International, once you step off the plane we are there to put a cold drink in your hand and usher you through the Mexican landscape to our great facilities. As you arrive, our world-renowned staff will take your luggage to your room and a hot plate of nachos will be waiting while you relax and prepare for an afternoon of fishing. We are dedicated to making your trip as comfortable as possible, and our focus has always been service to anglers around the globe.

For the months of June and July, anglers can expect to throw hot baits 8-inch Zoon Lizards (watermelon red or watermelon seed), Rapala DT-16 crankbaits, Fat Free Shad crankbaits (Citrus Shad) and Rat L Traps. Texas rigged soft plastics seems to be working at anytime, but as the fish begin to clamber for deeper, cooler waters anglers will want to pack in some Carolina rigging gear for their trip. Anglers Inn International introduced the best guide boat on the water in April, which is an 18’6” aluminum hull bass boat. With more deck space (2 large casting decks), length, width, storage space, elevated fishing seats, front & rear trolling motors this fishing machine is in a class by itself. There have already been many 10 pounders caught out of these boats with more to come.

The top water bite has been sporadic, but anglers have reported catching some great fish in the middle of the afternoon on the Spro Bronzeye Frog in the Night Walker color. Anglers have also had luck with buzz baits. Trey Tipton of Norman, Okla., recently visited Anglers Inn International on his first fishing trip and caught quite a few bass on the buzz bait. “Before Lake El Salto I never knew what a buzz bait was, but I can tell you I’ll never forget. This is only my first time fishing, and it won’t be the last. I think my favorite way to fish is the buzz bait because of the anticipation built around it. You are just sitting there reeling this thing across the water, and at any moment a giant could crush it. I will definitely return to Anglers Inn for my second fishing trip.”

Just like any fishing there may be slow times, but fish are highly concentrated at this time. Anglers are catching them in flurries with several big bags being reported.

“We caught 30 big bass in a matter of minutes it seemed,” said, Brian Mayeux. “I know we caught four 6 pounders and a seven pound bass on consecutive casts. It was unbelievable to catch that many largemouth bass so quickly. Bass anglers shouldn’t miss out on this opportunity.”

Anglers Inn International is introducing a few summer specials for any level angler. The Super Season Specials can save potential anglers $600 on a regular 4 nights/3.5 days of fishing when celebrating the holidays with Anglers Inn International.

Our staff is widely known to be the best and at Anglers Inn International we pride ourselves on our service. We want any angler or non-angler to come enjoy the great amenities that we have to offer. I guarantee that you will enjoy your stay with our famed staff, excellent accommodations and the greatest bass fishing on the planet. “I’ve never seen anything like the service here at Anglers Inn International,” said Gary Giudice of Norman, Okla. “Billy’s staff will bend over backwards to make sure your stay is as much like home as possible, but I can’t ever think of a time when my wife actually sprinted to me carrying a Margarita.”

May Bass Fishing at Anglers Inn on Lake El Salto

June 2, 2011 1 comment

Bass Fishing Lake El Salto

May was incredible at Anglers Inn International and Lake El Salto, Mexico. Although this fishing season has been inconsistent due to the abundance of bait, there wasn’t a single angler that came off the water wishing he was sitting on his couch dreaming about the next day of work. Instead, glowing reviews and tales of giant fish flooded the banks of Lake El Salto. The good news for anglers sitting on the couch dreaming of big bass is June and July will be better than May. Numbers were soaring all though the month, and the typical angler would boat 55-70 fish per day. A variety of baits would work, but crankbaits tend to rule the day.

Ryan Bostian, native of Southern California, threw a Rapala DT 10 crankbait to anchor several giants, including one 9-pound bass. “This place is amazing,” said Ryan. “We caught a bunch of 4-6 pound bass with shallow running crankbaits, and when that bite shut off we went to Rat-L-Traps when the wind started to whip. Make sure you bring the big hooks and a big appetite for big bass because this is epic.”

The hot baits for El Salto during the spring to summer months are 8-inch Zoom Lizards, 5-6 inch Senkos, black and blue Skinny Dipper-style swimbaits, crankbaits (Citrus Shad color) and Rat-L-Traps.

When June and July roll around we tend to see bass concentrated together around heavy cover. The ever-popular Black/Blue 10-inch worms are always working this time of year, and swim jigs begin to become a popular bite. When it comes to technique and Lake El Salto anything goes, and it doesn’t matter if you are a seasoned angler or weekend angler. Everyone is at home with Anglers Inn International. The guides are tuned into the fish and can point anglers in the right direction.

Several patrons doted on the superb service of the staff, and more than we could count put their entire trust with our guides. “These guides are key to having success on the water here at Lake El Salto,” said Jimmy Webster. “You can trust they will put you in the best spots on the water. Our guide had us doing a medium retrieve on a citrus shad crankbait around 18-20 feet of water and we were just slaying the fish. Our big fish of the trip was a 9-pound, 4-ounce giant. This is not our last trip with Anglers Inn International.”

Lake El Salto in June and July will be something to behold folks. Joe Thomas and Dennis Braid each filmed in the heat of the summer and absolutely hammered big fish. Anglers Inn International is introducing a few summer specials for any level angler. The Super Season Specials can save potential anglers $500 on a regular 4 nights/3.5 days of fishing when celebrating the holidays with Anglers Inn International. American Airlines will now be offering flights from Dallas directly to Mazatlan so anglers looking for a quick route now have another option.

Lake El Salto Bass Fishing Report – Anglers Inn

January 24, 2011 Leave a comment
El Salto Bass

Well we made it into the New Year and I hope your Holiday Season was joyous! As you will recall, last year El Salto receded to its lowest level in history. The fishing was terrific but we really needed a good rainy season. We received the rain we needed but the lake rose 40’ too quickly! The new foliage on the shoreline was covered with water and as it decomposed it took oxygen out of the water causing the bass to suspend making the fall fishing very difficult. In addition to the bass being suspended, there was an abundance of shad.

The lake is on a nice drop and the fishing is getting better by the week. One of the things we did this fall to compensate for the slow fishing was to offer our anglers an opportunity to come into MZT and try some light tackle (Anglers Inn style) fishing. Those who took us up on our offer were treated to some wonderful action catching Jack Crevalle in the 5-20 pound range. It was as simple as running a Zara Spook through an acre of feeding Jacks and hold on! They were also treated to the fighting, rod bending of Rooster Fish to 40 pounds. The light tackle fishing makes a fun filled day just a few hundred yards off the hotels along the beach.

Mazatlan is one of the few places in the world that offers wonderful freshwater and saltwater fishing from the same destination. If you think you would like using bass gear and tackle on aggressive fish, then I recommend that you consider adding a couple of days on to your bass Package to experience the light tackle action. Anglers Inn Offshore has its own private VIP dock, tackle shop, office, inshore boats/ cruisers and beachfront hotels. Couple this with the Anglers Inn unparalleled service and it is another experience not to be overlooked.

Thankfully the bass fishing has rebounded and will continue to do so the remainder of 2011. We are reporting catches of 30-50+ bass/day/boat and the fish look very healthy. In tough fishing situations it seems that the experienced anglers are doing better than the less experienced folks but things are starting to even out. The bite has been extremely light so you have to be on your toes or miss the fish. So far the best baits have been 5-6’ Senkos (watermelon and watermelon red flake), 8’ Zoom Lizards (same colors), small swim baits (white bellies), crank baits (citrus pattern) and Rat L Traps (silver with blue back). We have had little topwater action so far this season. Throughout the fall we have had a good number of 7, 8, 9 pounders with a few double-digit bass in the mix. Here’s what some of our recent anglers have to say about their visit at Anglers Inn:

Larry and Tom Gray, father and son team and repeated visitors to Anglers Inn reported catching 150 bass in 3 ½ days of fishing. Texas rigged watermelon lizards were the most productive during their stay. Jill & Steve Svrcek from Minnesota came down with Lisa and Jeffrey Harber. In 4 ½ days of fishing they estimated catching 180 fish with the biggest being 7 lbs. on Texas rigged and Carolina rigged lizards. Lisa and Jeffrey reported catching 150-200 bass during their stay. Their biggest bass was an 8 pounder. “Outstanding operation, best service I’ve received anywhere! Very nice people. We will be back!

The fishing at Mateos is pretty much the same as El Salto except better numbers. Folks seem to really enjoy the Mateos Resort, the private/separated accommodations, food, service and the 55,000-acre lake with its minimal fishing pressure. I recommend that you give Mateos a try and you will become a convert. In that light, we are offering a get acquainted with Mateos Resort special price of $1,690 / angler for the 4 Night/3 &1/2 Day Deluxe Package. You will not be disappointed!

Anglers Inn International is proud to announce the newest, most efficient and evolutionary guide boat coming soon to our Lake El Salto operation. When I pondered the design of this revolutionary guide boat my goal was client comfort, safety and fish-ability coupled with maximum storage with the guide directing the boat from the rear. With this goal in mind, and with the help of professional engineers and designers, we have created a new 18’6” aluminum hull boat that is like none other. With more deck space, length, width, storage space, elevated fishing seats, front & rear trolling motors, stabilizers, and an electronics package this fishing machine is in a class by itself. “Join Us” at Anglers Inn Resort at World Class Trophy Lake El Salto to experience first-hand the new concept in guided boats!

Exciting news! Anglers Inn International has created an exclusive floating mobile suite operation in Brazil. Located in the interior of the Brazilian Amazon we access to 12 major river systems and some concession Indian sanctuaries. In exceeding the ordinary, we are entirely mobile and to that extent, our customers will be fishing beyond all natural barriers. You can only reach the Anglers Inn Amazon Floating mobile Suites by floatplane or jet boat. We are in an area that cannot be reached by conventional river Boat operations. The Floating Mobile Suites are moving up the Rio Negro now and will be into position by the end of January. We are in the process of doing our final tune ups on the operation and I will report back at the end of February with updated photos, videos and more specifics! Anglers inn Amazon will have a long season because of our mobility and will operate peacock bass fishing adventures from August 2011 to early March, 2012. Get ready for an ultimate adventure!

A Bass Fishing Suggestion

October 27, 2010 Leave a comment

For many bass anglers in the states, catching Largemouth Bass over ten pounds is almost an impossibility. The northern states in particular rarely see a bass of that size. But there is a simple solution to this problem….head South of the Border to old Mexico. In Mexico, mild climates and abundant forage translate to perfect habitats for trophy bass. In these lakes bass can grow up to two pounds a year and ten pounders are always a possibility. Mexico bass fishing is not just a fishing trip, it’s a completely unique Mexican Vacation experience which many bass anglers choose to relive over and over again. At these Mexico bass lakes you’re just one cast away from that ten pound plus trophy bass!  For bass anglers it doesn’t get any better than this. Easy to get to, there are many domestic airlines that fly to Mexico including Continental, US Airways, United and many others. While the news media likes to play up the violence around the border towns, at these lakes you are far from the drug wars and fishing on lakes that are secure and free from violence.
